In the Chinese birth chart there is one sign everything revolves around: the day master. It is the heavenly stem of your birth day – one of ten characters, each an element in yang or yin form. It describes your basic nature and is the yardstick against which all other characters are measured.
The ten day masters
Wood appears as the Great Tree (甲, upright and steady) or as flower and vine (乙, adaptable). Fire as the Sun (丙, warm and generous) or candlelight (丁, sensitive and clear). Earth as the Mountain (戊, reliable) or garden soil (己, caring). Metal as the Sword (庚, determined) or jewellery (辛, precise and aesthetic). Water as the great River (壬, mobile and wide) or rain (癸, quiet and intuitive).
Strong or delicate?
The same day master works very differently depending on the chart. If it gets plenty of support – from the season of birth and from nourishing elements – it is strong and needs outlets. If it is delicate, it flourishes when strengthened. This decides which elements are good for you: a strong fire needs earth, metal or water, a weak fire needs wood and fire.
