Flying stars (Xuan Kong Fei Xing) – basics and reading
Published on October 22, 2026
Flying stars are the time school of feng shui. They assume that the quality of a house changes over time. Nine numbers “fly” through the nine areas of a home according to fixed rules – depending on when the house was built and which way it faces.
Periods of 20 years
Time is divided into nine periods of 20 years each. Period 9 has been running since 2024, until 2043. The number of the current period is the strongest, the next two are growing, the previous one is fading. This explains why a house flourishes in one period and stagnates in the next.
Mountain and water star
Each palace of the house chart has three numbers. The mountain star (top left) stands for health and relationships and likes calm – bedrooms, solid walls. The water star (top right) stands for money and career and likes movement – entrance, workplace, water. The large number in the middle is the period star.
The nine stars
1 career, 2 illness (outside its period), 3 quarrels, 4 learning and romance, 5 misfortune, 6 authority, 7 loss and theft, 8 wealth, 9 joy and reputation. Whether a star shows its good or difficult side depends on the period – and on which star shares its palace.
